Sep 3rd 2024

With the next academic year on the horizon, you’re bound to be nervous about moving into your student accommodation, given that it’s the first time you will be living independently, and managing your own finances.

Whilst fending for yourself for the first time can be nerve wracking, it’s also a very exciting time, as you’ll meet tons of new people and make fantastic friends during your student years.

For those moving into student accommodation in the next few weeks, our guide is a must-read with a variety of tips to help your move in run smoothly.

Confirm Your Move In Date

The exact move in date will vary depending on your accommodation provider, so it’s important to confirm this date and time beforehand. The last thing you want is to arrive outside your student flat a day early with all your belongings!

Your move in date and time will have been emailed to you as part of your move in confirmation, but if it hasn’t, reach out to your provider directly.

When you arrive at our X1 properties, you will be greeted by our friendly team members who will help you get settled into your new home.

If you have any questions about your move in date or time slot, don’t hesitate to reach out to a member of our team.

Provide Any Important Documents

Before moving into your new student home, it’s important that you complete all the right to rent checks for the property, and bring any important documents requested from your accommodation provider.

Remember, without bringing a valid proof of ID, you may not be able to pick up your keys to your apartment, and your move in date could be delayed.

When organising all of your belongings you should label them so you can easily find them when it comes to the big move in date – you’ll thank yourself later!

Create A List Of Essentials

Our next tip for moving into your new student flat is to check what items are already provided within your accommodation, then draw up a list of any other essential items you need to bring.

It may be a good idea to create a checklist on your notes folder on your phone, this way you can tick off each item you need to bring with you.

At X1, our apartments come fully furnished with everything you need for student life, including a designated study space, ample storage space, a cosy bed and a TV for watching your favourite shows.

Although, there are some other essentials that you will need to bring with you, including the likes of a duvet set, pillows and cases, hangers, cutlery sets and so on.

Don’t worry too much if you forget to bring any essential items, our properties are conveniently located close by to plenty of shops, so you can grab any bits and bobs you may need once you move in.

Arrange Your Travel

It is important to plan how you will be getting to your new student home on move in day, as leaving this until the last minute can make things more stressful.

For example, if you’re travelling via train or coach, you should make sure to book your trip in advance, as this will not only help reduce the price, but ensure that all of the tickets for the set day don’t sell out.

If you’re an international student coming from overseas, make sure you arrange your airport pick up and drop off prior to the move in day too!

Don’t forget, you can make the most of exclusive deals and discounts due to your student status, and you can even save on travel options.

This includes railcards, trains, coaches and flights so be sure to see what bargains you can snap up.

Research The Area

Moving to a new university city or town in the near future? You should get to grips with the area before the big move, this way you’ll be familiar with your surroundings once you get there.

It can also be good to research some of the best activities in the area, so you’ve got plenty of things to do and see when you’re not busy studying. This also means you’ll have some local recommendations for your flat mates too!

If you haven’t done so already, we would also recommend planning how you will be getting to and from your uni campus once term begins.

At X1, our student properties are conveniently situated in prime university locations in Liverpool and Manchester, so you will be able to stroll out of bed to your lectures.

By building a relationship with the people you live with, you will have a much more comfortable and enjoyable living experience, and you might just make some great friendships!
